TRUSSVILLE — Isabella Weyerman, Miss Trussville 2022, is working to unite her hometown via an upcoming “We Are Family Food Drive.” The food drive will support T.E.A.M. (Trussville Ecumenical Assistive Ministry).
“Covid precautions prevented T.E.A.M. from having their primary food drive in February this year, but they have continued to serve our community throughout the pandemic, even offering curbside pick up for those in need,” Weyerman said. “17 percent of adults and 23 percent of children in Alabama struggle with food insecurity. Advocating for such a worthy cause has been a joy.”
In September, Isabella mailed over a hundred cards to Chamber of Commerce businesses, raising awareness and asking for support. In October, she emailed and direct messaged around a hundred organizations and businesses new the area or those who had a history of supporting T.E.A.M. in the past to encourage their support in her goal of the most donations received for the ministry in a drive. As a result, all three of Trussville’s elementary schools have partnered with Miss Trussville this year to do the “We Are Family Food Drive” November 1-5th.
“When my dad died unexpectedly of heart failure this month, my family unanimously decided to ask for donations for T.E.A.M. in lieu of flowers,” Weyreman said. “Growing up in Trussville, I have always thought the main reason we call our city the Gateway To Happy Living is because we rally around each other like a family in times of need. When I received the honor of becoming Miss Trussville, I immediately began planning all of the ways I could serve Trussville, but I have been completely humbled by the love and support our city has poured into my family in the loss of my father and my efforts to recruit support for the food drive. I know the Trussville family is going to absolutely overwhelm T.E.A.M.’s facility with their generosity.”
