BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the body of a man found burned beyond recognition on Friday, January 7.

West Precinct officers were dispatched to the intersection of Slayden Avenue at Birmingport Road. Upon arrival, officers found evidence that a homicide had occurred.
“The decedent sustained gunshot wound injuries during a reported assault,” Deputy Coroner William Yates said.
It was not immediately clear how long the body had been there.
