SHELBY COUNTY — Hewitt-Trussville left no doubt on a night when head coach Taylor Burt got the opportunity for her 300th career win as a head coach.
The Huskies pasted Oak Mountain 15-2 on Thursday night, run-ruling the Eagles on a night when Hewitt-Trussville seemed to do no wrong in the batter’s box.
“We have seen a definite improvement at plate over last 6-7 game,” Burt said. “We struggled to produce some runs earlier in the season, but I think as the girls have gotten more comfortable and gotten more experience, we’re improving. We don’t lack talent, just experience.”
Riley Rudick went 2-for-3 at the plate including a home run and two RBIs; Olivia Faggard went 2-for-4 with a dinger and a double, pushing in a pair of runs as well. Kenleigh Cahalan went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a triple and 3 RBIs; Hannah Dorsett was clutch, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a stolen base.
Ana Henson went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Sara Phillips was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Riley Tyree was also 2-for-4 with an RBI.
For Burt, getting to win No. 300 isn’t just an individual accomplishment.
“It went by really fast, but also really slow at the same time,” she said. “It’s not me winning 300 games. I’ve had 11 different teams and a lot of different girls and assistant coaches too that did all the work. It’s been a fun time getting to this point.”
