UPDATE: Both deceased individuals’ families have been notified of their deaths.

JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in locating the families of the following two decedents who recently died in Jefferson County.
Martinez Durend Gilchrist, 50, died on Febraury 24, 2022, at 7:55 a.m. Gilchrist was found unresponsive on a sidewalk outside a business in the 2300 block of University Boulevard in Birmingham. Coroners say he died of an accidental overdose. All attempts to locate his family have failed. All attempts to locate family have failed, and there is little known about the decedent.
According to Deputy Coroner Williams Yates, Gilchrist was homeless at the time of his death.
William David Flowers, 66, of Birmingham, died on February 27, 2022, at 4:45 p.m. Flowers was found unresponsive inside his Grayson Valley residence in the 1600 block of Brewster Road in Birmingham by a friend performing a welfare check.
Yates said Flowers died of natural causes. All attempts to locate family have failed so far. It’s believed a Billy and Chestine Flowers are the decedent’s parents, and they had lived on Brewster Road near the decedent’s residence until their deaths.
