CLAY — The Clay Council renewed the Jefferson County Memorandum of Understanding on Tuesday, March 22 for the removal of debris during severe weather.
City Manager Ronnie Dixon said the agreement has been in place since 2012 of the Jefferson County Tornado where two people were killed and over 100 people injured.
According to Al.com, the City of Clay endured winds of 150 miles per hour in 2012 which led to massive damage to the area and surrounding cities such as Oak Grove, and Center Point.
Over 500 homes were damaged or destroyed and more than 50 businesses and one school which was Center Point Elementary had to be bulldozed at the time.
The city’s extension of the JCMU agreement covers debris removal for the next three years.
