BIRMINGHAM — A Birmingham man was indicted on drug charges this week.
According to the United States Department of Justice, Eric Leman Ashley, Jr., 26, was charged with possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance after a one-count indictment was filed.
The indictment states that in January 2022, Ashley illegally possessed a controlled substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl in Jefferson County.
The maximum penalty for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance is 40 years in prison.
An indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
