TRUSSVILLE — This was a hard loss for the Hewitt-Trussville softball team to take, as arch-rival Spain Park celebrated a 16-2 victory over the No. 1 team in Class 7A on the Huskies’ home field.
The Huskies have piled on a ton runs against opponents during the 2022 regular season, and now they face the other side of it. The teams were tied 1-1 going into the second when the Jags exploded for five runs to take a commanding 7-1 lead, and then put the home team away with a five-run burst in the top of the seventh.
Hewitt-Trussville managed six hits and two runs on the night, compiling an uncharacteristic three errors. Spain Park had 15 hits on the night and one error.
Kenleigh Cahalan went 1-for-1 and a pair of walks, scoring in the first inning. Riley Rudick went 2-for-4 and scored in the fourth.
Olivia Stults went 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
Sarah Hindman took the loss in the circle. She pitched two innings, allowing five hits and seven runs with two strikeouts and two walks.
Hewitt-Trussville plays again on Monday, April 11 against Oak Mountain, and will travel to rematch Spain Park on Monday, April 18.
