TRUSSVILLE — The Huskies are on a roll. They disposed of Vestavia Hills here on Tuesday, April 12, by a 5-1 margin in a game that showed the Huskies’ talents — but also their potential to be even better.
Riley Quick was dominant on the mound for most of the game, throwing a complete game and striking out 13. Quick’s fastball was clocked at 95 mph at one point during the game according to PG Deep South, which was clocking Quick’s pitches. His slider came in around 83-85 mph.
“I thought Riley mislocated some pitches in the third inning and gave up a run,” Huskies head coach Jeff Mauldin said after the win. “He came into the dugout and apologized to me. After that inning I thought he was pretty dominant. I mean, he was dominant all night except for one inning. This is the most focused I’ve ever seen him.”
Matt Miller went 2-for-2 for Hewitt-Trussville, while Quick helped his own cause with an RBI single. Jack Ollis, Ethan Duhon, Brooks McRae and Carson Wideman each had an RBI as well.
“That was a great win for out team,” Mauldin said. “(Vestavia) is a great team over there. Our area is arguably one of the better areas in the state. Now, there are some other good areas in the state, too, but this is 7A baseball in Birmingham, and you’ve got to be on your A game to win games.”
Hewitt-Trussville plays next at Vestavia on Thursday, April 14.
