VESTAVIA HILLS — A Center Point teenager has been identified as the person killed in a Wednesday evening shooting.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s office identified 16-year-old Jamie Monte Gibson as the person found shot on an exit ramp of I-459 near Liberty Park in Vestavia Hills around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4.
“The decedent sustained gunshot wound injuries during a reported assault,” Deputy Coroner Bill Yates reported. “The death is being investigated as a homicide therefore, all questions regarding the circumstances surrounding the death should be made to the Birmingham Police Department.”
Gibson was reportedly a 10th grader at Huffman High School. The teenager was transported by Vestavia Fire and Rescue to Grandview Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 6:23 p.m.
