TRUSSVILLE — The AHSAA state softball tournaments begin Tuesday, May 17, and three local teams will contend for a state championship in three different classifications. All games are in Oxford at Choccolocco Park.
Hewitt-Trussville starts the 7A tournament at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and faces Hoover. The Huskies and Bucs split during their two meetings during the regular season. Hoover won the first contest back on February 22, a 4-3 victory. Hewitt-Trussville got a measure of revenge by winning 7-5 in the Hewitt Invitational on March 5.
Other first-round matchups in 7A:
- Fairhope vs. Mary Montgomery
- Central-Phenix City vs. Prattville
- Thompson vs. Spain Park
- Winners bracket final: 5 p.m. on Wednesday
- Championship game: Thursday, 1:30 p.m.
Springville will play Mortimer Jordan in the first round on Tuesday, May 17 at 10:45 a.m. The Tigers have a tough draw against a team that has beaten them twice in the regular season, both times 7-5.

- Helena vs. Robertsdale
- Baldwin County vs. Calera
- Athens vs. Pell City
- Winners bracket final, 5:45 p.m.
- Championship: Wednesday, 5 p.m.
Moody will play Hayden in the first round on Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. The Blue Devils played Hayden once early in the 2022 season, falling 4-3 on February 22.

- Elmore County vs. Rehobeth
- Satsuma vs. Brewbaker Tech
