BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the Birmingham man shot and killed while driving in Birmingham on Monday, May 23, at approximately 10:51 p.m.
“The death is being investigated as a homicide,” Chief Deputy Coroner William Yates said.

Birmingham Police officers were dispatched on a report of a ShotSpotter alert. Officers arrived on the scene and observed an SUV that had collided into a utility pole.
“Upon further investigation, officers observed the driver suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald said.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced Westbrook dead.
“Currently, there is no one in custody,” Fitzgerald said. “Details are limited in this investigation.”
