TRUSSVILLE — Calvary Chapel Trussville recently held their second annual benefit 5k for Positive Choices Pregnancy Center in the park at Cosby Lake.
Raising $2,500 for the pregnancy center, runners came out to participate in a timed 5k run over a challenging wooded course and a fun run around the lake. For the second year in a row, Rebecca Platt posted the winning women’s time, with Colton Warner, 6, completing the 5k and David Villaneuva posting the fastest men’s time. All in all, over 30 participants from multiple area churches enjoyed the 5k and fun run and supported the pro-life ministries involved.
All funds raised from the event, including runner’s registrations, a donation from Kona Ice, and additional personal donations, went to Positive Choices, a local pro-life crisis pregnancy center in Trussville that helps families through unplanned pregnancies. Also present at the event was Abortion Recovery of Alabama, a ministry that focuses on walking with women and families who have experienced abortion through the process of repentance, healing, and God’s grace.
“This is our way of trying to bring the community together for a good time and a good cause,” Pastor Tyler Warner said. “Every dollar raised today will go to provide practical support, counseling, and love at every step of the process for pregnant families. Now more than ever, it is important for churches and Christians to stand with those who are doing the hard work of pro-life ministry. Jesus told us to go to the ones who needed the most help, and this is our effort to be obedient to His words.”
The event was a solid success, and Calvary Chapel plans to expand on it in years to come. As a church fellowship, they are excited to provide a way for churches throughout the area to unite in supporting such vital ministries, putting the community’s biblical convictions to work to practically care for families across all aspects of this terrible social issue.
Calvary Chapel wants to thank everyone who came out and ran for the moms, dads, and babies whose lives are touched and even saved by the work of Positive Choices.
