CLAY — One of the most-sought recruits in the country has made his commitment to play college football for The University of Alabama.
Jaylen Mbakwe, entering his junior year at Clay-Chalkville High School, chose the Crimson Tide from a list of scholarship offers that included more than 60 schools.
Mbakwe scored nine receiving touchdowns in the Cougars’ 15-0 campaign in 2021, scoring nine touchdowns on 36 catches for 677 yards. At 6-0, 175 pounds, Mbakwe was part of a stellar defensive unit as well, totaling two interceptions, 10 solo tackles and breaking up six passes in the defensive backfield.
He is projected to play defense in college, but his timed speed — a non wind-aided 10.46 in the 100 meters — could help him see action as a slot receiver as well.
