Emma Jean Clifton Byrd Mann “Miss Jean,” 85, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on August 23, 2022, in Mobile, Alabama.
She was born in Sulligent, Alabama. She was affectionately known as the ‘crochet queen’ and was an original member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church in Mobile, Alabama. She loved flowers and gardening. She was a member of the Forest Hill Garden Club and volunteered at the Mobile Botanical Gardens. She was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She retired from AT&T in 1991 after 32 years of service.
Miss Jean is survived by her daughter, Kellie Byrd Thompson; two grandchildren, Jonathan L. Thompson (Caroline) and Katie R. Thompson (Tucker); three sisters, Frances Turman, Grace Gilmore (Felton), and Catherine Winters.
Emma is preceded in death by her husbands, Horace Walker Byrd and Bobby Jack Mann; Mother, Fannie Alma Burks; father, William Troy Clifton; sister, Virginia Stanford; two brothers, John Clifton and Wayne Clifton.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, Alabama, with her nephew, Jason Clifton officiating.
