BIRMINGHAM – A man who died on Sunday evening after the bicycle he was riding was struck by a motor vehicle has been identified.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Taurus Lamond Hearns, 49, of Birmingham, was riding a bicycle on on First Avenue South at 18th Street South, on Oct. 9, at approximately 7:21 p.m., when he was struck by a motor vehicle. Hearns was transported to UAB Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 7:45 p.m.
“The decedent was the lone rider of a bicycle when struck by a motor vehicle,” Deputy Coroner William Yates said. “The driver of the motor vehicle fled the scene.”
The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated by the Birmingham Police Department.
