BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim that was found fatally wounded at Chevron (1381 Bessemer Road) in Birmingham on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at approximately 12:46 a.m.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Jamel Nathan Thomas, 29, of Birmingham, sustained gunshot wound injuries in the 5300 block of Avenue O in Birmingham.
Officers received a call of a home invasion in the 5300 block of Avenue O. At approximately 12:46 a.m.; officers received a call of an adult male shot at Chevron, according to the Birmingham Police Department (BPD).

“The preliminary investigation suggests the adult male told people at Chevron that he had been shot, and those people called 911,” BPD stated.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and transported the adult male to UAB hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
BPD stated The homeowner in the 5300 block of Avenue O reported they believed they shot an intruder who broke into their home. Due to the proximity of the home invasion and where the adult male sought refuge, BPD believes the shooting is connected.
“The homeowner cooperated with investigators,” BPD stated. “Investigators will present their findings to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.”
