GUNTERSVILLE – The Moody Blue Devil boys’ basketball team travelled to Guntersville on Wednesday night and made the long drive back home with a tough loss. Despite putting together a good second and third quarter, the Blue Devils just could not overcome a slow start in the first and the defense just could not stop Guntersville from scoring.
The first quarter was not a good one for Moody. Guntersville hung 21 points on the visiting Blue Devils and their defense held Moody to just 9 points, led by Davion Dozier with 5 points and Caden Helms, who had the other 4.
The second quarter got a bit better as Moody found some success scoring, but Guntersville continued to shoot the lights out, scoring 18 points in the period. Moody scored 14 of their own, led by Helms with 6 points. Dozier had another 4. The halftime score was 39-23 Guntersville.
Moody came out of the locker room with a comeback on their minds, outscoring the home team 19-14 in the third frame. Dozier put up 6 points to go with Helms’ 6 to lead the Blue Devils and give them hope, closing the gap to 53-42 heading into the fourth.
Guntersville would continue their offensive onslaught in the final period of the game, putting up 19 points while holding Moody to just 8 points. Kolby Seymour led Moody scorers in the fourth with 4 of his 6 total points on the night coming in the final stanza.
Caden Helms led the team in scoring with 20 points while Davion Dozier followed with 15.
Coach Chad Bates said, “We battled a really good Guntersville team. We let their guards dictate the style of play and it caught up to us.”
Moody hosts Cornerstone on Friday night.
