BIRMINGHAM – The top-five ranked (#4 by Alabama Sports Writers Association/#5 by Max Preps) Hewitt Trussville Lady Huskies traveled to Oak Mountain to take on the Eagles Tuesday night in an area matchup. Tonya Hunter’s girls did not take it easy on Oak Mountain, beating them by 41 points in their own gym.
Hewitt wasted no time, putting up 23 points in the first quarter. On the defensive side of the ball, the lady Huskies allowed just 2 points by Oak Mountain in the quarter.
The dominance did not stop in the second quarter as the Huskies put up another 21 points. The defense felt a bit more generous in this period as they allowed Oak Mountain to score 12 points.
The second half continued to be owned by the Hewitt Trussville ladies as they would give up just 11 points in the third and 6 in the fourth. The Huskies would score 19 in the third and 11 in the fourth, putting away the home team 74-31.
On the night, The Lady Huskies were led by Jordan Hunter who had 22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals. Teammate Audre Benson had 14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals for the Huskies followed by April Hooks with 14 of her own to go with 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
Coach Tonya Hunter was pleased with the performance but sees room for improvement. “This moves us to 2-0 in the area, but we are still trying to find a rhythm,” said Coach Hunter.
The Huskies improved to 17-6 on the season (2-0 in the area). They will travel to Spain Park this Friday night.
