U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and Federal Bureau of Investigation Acting Special Agent in Felix A. Rivera-Esparra announced the indictment.
A one-count indictment filed in the U.S. District Court charges Carli’s ex-boyfriend Marcus Spanevelo, 35, of Panama City, Florida, with a kidnapping that resulted in a death arising out of events that occurred in the Northern District of Alabama in March 2022.
Carli’s body was found in a Springville barn by investigators on April, 3, 2022. Spanevelo reportedly had ties to the property and worked for a company in Springville.
St. Clair County District Attorney Lyle Harmon announced that Spanevelo had been charged with abuse of a corpse in October of 2022. A grand jury returned an indictment in December of 2022.
