BIRMINGHAM – A federal grand jury charged two men last week with committing multiple armed robberies in one day, announced U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and FBI Special Agent in Charge Carlton L. Peeples.
A six-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court charges Dedrick Deon Taylor, 31, and Dominic Bimbow, 29, both of Birmingham, with two counts of Hobbs Act Robbery, two counts of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and each with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to the indictment, on April 14, 2022, Taylor and Bimbow committed two armed robberies at businesses in Birmingham. Taylor and Bimbow robbed a Citgo convenience store located on Bankhead Highway and a Dollar General located on 5th Avenue South.
The Hobbs Act prohibits actual or attempted robbery that affects interstate commerce and that involves the taking of property from another person by means of actual or threatened force or violence.
The maximum penalty for Hobbs Act Robbery is 20 years in prison. The maximum penalty for brandishing of a firearm during a crime of violence is a mandatory minimum of 7 years to life in prison. The maximum penalty for being a felon in possession of a firearm is 10 years in prison.
The FBI investigated the case along with the Birmingham Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Baty is prosecuting the case.
An indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
