BIRMINGHAM – A 40-year-old man was shot during a reported assault at the 600 block of Carline Avenue in Birmingham on Saturday, April 8, at 12:51 a.m.
“The decedent sustained gunshot wound injuries during a reported assault,” Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said. “The death is being investigated as a homicide.”
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting the investigation.
According to a statement released by the Birmingham Police Department, West Precinct officers were dispatched at approximately 12:50 a.m. to a residence in the 600 Block of Carline Avenue on report of a Person Shot.
“Officers arrived on the scene and entered the residence when they observed the victim unresponsive in a room suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,” Assistant Public Information Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated. “Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
“The preliminary investigation suggests there was a small party at the residence. The victim and a separate male were involved in an argument that led to shots being fired and the victim being struck by gunfire.”
At this time, no one is in custody.
