TRUSSVILLE- The Hewitt Track & Field team competed in the confines of their home stadium for the first time in seven weeks this past Friday night. The Huskies hosted the Hewitt-Trussville Invitational to close the regular season. “I want to thank all of the athletes and parents who worked so hard to make the home meet a success,” said head coach Tom Esslinger. “We are hosting Sectionals next weekend and couldn’t do it without volunteers.”
The boys team came away with the team win over 7A rivals Hoover and Vestavia and 6A powers Mountain Brook and Homewood. The girls finished runners up to Hoover. The boys picked up their fifth meet win of the season. “I was especially happy with how well-rounded the boys team was,” said Esslinger. “Winning a big meet is always a significant accomplishment in my mind.”

“Our athletes really finished off the regular season strong, and we feel good about where we are heading into Sectionals,” said Esslinger. “We held some girls out of events to get healthier for Sectionals, but those that competed did well.”
Hewitt will host the 7A – Section 3 meet this Friday and Saturday. Teams participating: Chelsea, Hoover, Oak Mountain, Thompson, Tuscaloosa County and Vestavia.
