BIRMINGHAM — According to Officer Truman Fitzgerald of the Birmingham Police Department, investigators believe a 19-year-old girl was gunned down Tuesday night in a targeted attack at a convenience store.
When officers arrived on the scene at 10th Avenue Convenience Store, they found an adult female lying unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound inside the store. Officers also found a second female who had been wounded by gunfire.
The 19-year-old was pronounced deceased at the scene and the second victim proved to have non-life threatening injuries.
Deputy Coroner Phillip Russell identified Janyia Marshae Thompson of Birmingham as the deceased.
“A group of individuals was standing outside of the convenience store talking when an unknown suspect fired shots at the group,” Fitzgerald said. “We believe this incident is a targeted attack.”
There are no suspects in custody at this time.
