BIRMINGHAM – A Jefferson County Jail inmate died at the hospital after suffering from medical complications early Wednesday morning, June 7.
Joseph Ryan Byram, 39, from Adger, has been held in the Bessemer lockup since December 21, 2022 after being charged with second degree assault and drug charges.
He began to experience medical complications on Monday. Jail medical staff evaluated him and determined that he would need to be transported to UAB hospital. He died two days later at 5:46 a.m.
Jefferson County Coroner’s office performed an autopsy and found no signs of foul play. The cause of death is pending a laboratory examination.
