BALDWIN COUNTY – A Trussville man and two Pelham women were killed in a Baldwin County crash on Sunday that landed an Elberta man in jail. The crash occurred at about 2:30 p.m.
David Arthur Colburn, 60, of Elberta, has been arrested and charged with three counts of manslaughter and one count of driving under the influence, according to Baldwin County Jail records.
Colburn was arrested after the Trailblazer he was driving struck a black pickup truck, sending it across the median into the oncoming northbound traffic on Baldwin Beach Express where the pickup struck a GMC Yukon driven by Daryl Speegle, 64, of Trussville, according to WKRG.
Speegle was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Christie Lowe, 47, and her daughter, Margaret, 19, both of Pelham, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The two women had been in the pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup truck and a woman in the Yukon with Speegle sustained critical injuries in the crash. Three children in the pickup truck were also injured.
According to jail records, Colburn is being held on bonds totaling $160,000.
