BIRMINGHAM — A violent three day stretch in Birmingham culminated with a triple shooting on Saturday, according to Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
The victim was later identified as Corey Denard Louis Jr., 19, of Birmingham.
Fitzgerald said that Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported Louis to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Officers on the scene issued a ‘be on the lookout’ bulletin for a vehicle that fled the scene before receiving a call of a person shot at Woodlawn High School.
“Officers arrived at Woodlawn High School when they observed a vehicle that matched exact description of the be on the lookout bulletin,” Fitzgerald said.
Police found one woman in the vehicle and a second woman nearby. According to Fitzgerald, they both had gunshot wounds. The female in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and the second woman was transported to the hospital to be treated for her wounds.
The deceased female has been identified as Alajah Fairfax, 20, of Birmingham.
“The deceased male and deceased female share a child in common,” Fitzgerald said. “We believe a domestic dispute took place on 66th Street South between the deceased male and the deceased female which led to shots being fired.
“During the dispute, Corey Louis Jr. fired shots at Alajah Fairfax and the second adult female. Both female victims were struck by gunfire and then fled the scene in a vehicle later stopping at Woodlawn High School.”
Fitzgerald said the death of Louis is being investigated as an unclassified death and may have been the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy on both parties,” Fitzgerald said. “The autopsy will help determine the manner of death in the case of Corey Louis Jr.”
Since June 6, there have been four people killed and two others wounded in shootings across the city.
