LEEDS — A Pell City woman started three fires inside of the Leeds Walmart on Saturday, August 5.
The fires were set intentionally at around 7:50 p.m. by Jayla Fain, 26, at the Leeds Walmart located at 8551 Whitfield Avenue. She is currently in custody and has been charged with two counts of arson, theft of property, criminal mischief, and 32 counts of reckless endangerment.
Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin said the first fire was set in the women’s bathroom and the others right after. The first caused over $100,000 in damages and Fain was found with $500 worth of stolen merchandise at the time of her apprehension in Leeds on Ziegler Road.
“I am so proud of the Leeds Police Officers and Investigators from our department. They responded to the scene and collected evidence and followed up the next day. They did an outstanding job in locating a suspect and her location,” Chief Irwin said. “This is further proof that you can not get away with committing crime when law enforcement utilizes the technology and resources together to remove dangerous people from our communities. I appreciate the assistance from the citizens who came forward with information and other law enforcement agencies. I appreciate their partnerships in working together to make the citizens of Alabama safe.”
