LEEDS — Patience and quick thinking by undercover officers and detectives in Leeds led to the arrest of an alleged auto burglar on Tuesday.
Police in Leeds said they watched as a woman tried to open the doors of 13 separate vehicles before moving an undercover vehicle into place. Officers then observed the same woman enter the disabled undercover vehicle. That’s when they moved in for the arrest.
“On August 15, 2023, detectives with Operational Support Unit observed Brittany Renae Robinson attempt to break into thirteen (13) separate vehicles in a parking lot in the 8500 Block of Whitfield Avenue,” police said in a statement released Thursday. “She was observed attempting to open vehicle doors, as well as attempting to use a key in her possession to unlock vehicle doors.”
According to the statement, detectives then brought in an undercover vehicle and left it stationary in the parking lot and unoccupied. The vehicle had been disabled.
“Ms. Robinson was then observed opening the driver’s door of the undercover vehicle and entering the driver’s seat. At this time, she was taken into custody,” police said.
Brittany Renae Robinson was charged with 13 counts of attempted unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle, one count of unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle, and 1 count of resisting arrest.
Robinson booked into the St. Clair County Jail with a total bond of $50,000.
