BESSEMER – An inmate at the Jefferson County Jail – Bessemer Division, located at 1822 2nd Avenue North, was found unresponsive inside his private cell by jail staff on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023, at 9:11 p.m.
Jeremy Aram Baskin, 46, of Birmingham, was pronounced dead at 9:48 p.m.
“The decedent was an inmate at the Jefferson County Jail – Bessemer Division, where he had been incarcerated since 8/8/2023 for multiple outstanding warrants,” Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said. “An autopsy performed 8/20/2023 found no evidence of foul play associated with the death, with the cause of death pending additional laboratory studies.”
The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
