OAKVILLE-The Hewitt Husky cross country team performed well at the Chickasaw Trails Invitational Saturday.
The Hewitt boys finished fourth, with Oscar Spears leading the way, followed by Lelan Neal, Brooks Maddox, Arane Cane, John Paul Amari, Maddox Turner, and Mason Lachina.
Jacob Mullinax was the top JV runner.
“It was an outstanding race for our guys,” said Hewitt head coach Matthew Michalke. “We showed great depth with a small spread in our top seven, and our JV boys finished second.”
“Anytime you leave Chickasaw in the top five, it is a great day!”
The Lady Huskies finished tenth out of 41 teams. Avery Cahoon was the top finisher for Hewitt, followed by Mary Durham, Natalie Wiram, Bella Bales, and Amberli Santiago.
“The girls ran well individually, but we were missing two of our top five, which lowered our team finish,” Michalke said.
“We feel really good about where we are at this point in the season and have proved through two weeks that we can meet our end of season goals.”
Senior Kinley Harris was one of the Husky runners missing. Harris was on an official visit to Mississippi College and committed to the Choctaws Saturday.
Callie Armstrong led the JV.
“I am proud of how hard the team is working and how focused they have been on improving each week.”
The Huskies are back in action this Saturday at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville.
