TRUSSVILLE — The Special Olympics will hold their track and field events in Trussville on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
The public is invited to attend the Special Olympics at Hewitt-Trussville Stadium near the campus of Hewitt-Trussville High School beginning at 9:15 a.m.
The event will feature athletes from several Birmingham-area schools, including Trussville, Hoover, Mountain Brook, Vestavia Hills and Homewood.
Following the Walk of Champions, which kicks off at 9:15 a.m., there will be an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. Competitive events will begin at 10:30 a.m.
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
