BIRMINGHAM — Police in Birmingham were busy investigating two separate homicides less than an hour apart on Saturday. Both involved male victims found shot to death inside vehicles. The first occurred on the west side and the second was reported about two hours later on the south side.
Officers arrived and found a black sedan crashed into a construction fence surrounding abandoned apartments. The driver was suffering from gunshot wounds.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced the adult male victim dead at the scene.
Fitzgerald said the preliminary investigation revealed the victim was shot by an unknown assailant and crashed into another vehicle before colliding with the fence. Police believe the victim was targeted. The occupants of the second vehicle were not injured.
Officers arrived to find an adult male inside the vehicle had been shot. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Fitzgerald said details were limited and police do not have a suspect at this time. But the shooting occurred in a busy area and he urged anyone who witnessed the incident or had information related to the homicide to call Birmingham police.
