HUFFMAN– The Clay-Chalkville Cougars (7-0) remain undefeated after another shutout win on the road Friday night against Huffman (0-8) The Cougars dominated the Huffman Vikings 72-0.
Cougar running back Aaron Osley kicked the night off with only :12 off the clock with a 49-yard touchdown run to put the Cougars up 7-0 early after the PAT from Antone Ellison. The Cougar defense got their hands on the ball two minutes later, blocking the Vikings’ punt attempt. Linebacker Rod Ivy took it to the endzone for six, giving the Cougars a 14-0 lead at the 10:00 mark in the first quarter.
A turnover on downs by the Vikings on their next possession gifted the Cougars the ball on the Viking 19-yard line. Jaylen Mbakwe spent no time finding wide receiver Kumar Robinson for a 19-yard touchdown pass, boosting the Cougars to a 21-point lead after the PAT.
Another gifted possession in Viking territory for the Cougars led to Mbakwe finding Mario Craver for a 16-yard touchdown, less than two minutes later to put the Cougars up 28-0.
Cougar defensive lineman Patrick Smith scored seconds later on a pick-six to give the Cougars a comfortable 35-0 lead with 6:00 to go in the first quarter.
Cougar running back Taurus Chambers made an appearance late in the first for a 9-yard touchdown run to bump the lead to 42. The Cougars followed up with a safety on the Vikings with 1:48 left to go in the first, increasing the lead to 44-0.
The Cougars exited the first quarter with one more touchdown, a 36-yard dart from Mbakwe to Sophomore receiver Corey Barber.
Sophomore running back Isaiah Miles started off the second quarter with just under a minute off the clock on a 20-yard touchdown run of his own for a 58-0 lead for the Cougars.
Huffman put their first first-down of the night on the stat sheet, but followed it up with a fumble, giving the ball back to Clay-Chalkville in Viking territory.
Running back Bravis Cave topped off the second quarter with yet another Cougar touchdown for 27-yards, giving the Cougars a 65-0 lead going into the half.
Sophomore quarterback Aaron Frye entered in for the Cougars late in the second quarter. Frye got a touchdown to his name late in the fourth to end the night for the Cougars, 72-0.
“Really proud of our kids showing up and playing with great energy and excitement,” said Clay offensive coordinator Stuart Floyd. “We were concerned about coming out slow after an off week but they showed up from the opening kick and played a clean game.”
Clay travels to Oxford Friday night.
