PINSON – Center Point improved to 7-1 and 4-1 in region play (Pell City’s win over Center Point was forfeited) on the year with a 32-19 region win over Pinson Valley (2-5, 1-3).
Deon Moore continues to put up big numbers for the Eagles. Friday night he threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns.
Pinson started the scoring off with a Darius Hunter 66-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Moore then hit Antonio Garfield for a 38-yard touchdown. Garfield converted the two-point attempt, and Center Point led 8-7.
The Eagles extended their lead to 16-7 after Moore connected with Mekhi Brown for a 77-yard touchdown, and Jaquoryae Busby converted the two-point conversion.
Dylan Reese connected with Rico Freeman on a 92-yard pass for a touchdown to cut the Eagle lead to 16-13 after the PAT failed.
The Reese and Freeman show wasn’t done. The pair connected on a 27-yard score after the half, and the Indians led 19-16.
Moore answered back with another completion to Brown for a 19-yard pass to give the Eagles the lead again at 24-19.
Center Point put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 26-yard run by Julius Finnerson. Moore converted the two-point attempt to give the Eagles a 32-19 lead.
“We gifted them with a pick six and two receiving touchdowns that our DBs had a hand on the ball,” Center Point head coach George Bates said.
“Proud of how we took control of the second half with the run and pass game,” he said. “Defense played well minus a few plays.”
“Also, this is not a rivalry game for us; we just prepped for another region opponent. This team is 2-0 vs Pinson.”
Brown finished with six receptions for 144 yards and two touchdowns.
Reese was 7 of 20 for 168 yards and two touchdowns.
Freeman caught three passes for 126 yards and two scores.
Pinson travels to Shades Valley next Friday while Center Point has an off week.
