LEEDS — A woman who was originally believed to have died from crash actually passed away from medical issue, announced coroners on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
Silke Maria Crombie, 56, of North Carolina, was on-track at Barber Motorsports when she had a medical issue and later died at UAB Hospital on Sunday, Oct. 15.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office initially said she died after being involved in a wreck on-track.
A postmortem examination and a review of hospital medical findings found she experienced a medical event while driving a motorcycle-sidecar and immediately became unresponsive. Her sidecar partner was able to get the motorcycle to come to a stop safely without causing any trauma to the decedent or others.
The death has been reclassified as a natural death.
