TRUSSVILLE – Hewitt-Trussville hosted Leeds, Moody, Shades Valley/JCIB, Springville, and 31 other teams this past Saturday at the Husky Challenge.
Since 2002, the Husky Challenge has been a staple on the top cross country team’s schedules.
The course is designed to allows runners to run a lap and finish inside Husky Stadium.
“We always enjoy running at home and this was another great Husky Challenge,” said Husky head coach Matthew Michalke.
“We had top-tier competition and the addition of live results on the video board enhanced the experience.”
The Hewitt girls varsity and junior varsity teams finished second to Mountain Brook
“Our varsity and JV teams had great performances,” said Michalke.
“We’ve had great consistency in our girl’s Top 7, and we brought up two middle school runners on Saturday that did an outstanding job.”
Michalke feels that his girls are peaking at the right time as the team heads to Sectionals next Thursday.
“That group is on track to be one of the top teams in the State if we continue to improve.”
The Hewitt varsity boys finished fourth behind Vestavia, Mountain Brook, and Hoover.
The Husky junior varsity boys finished third to Mountain Brook and Vestavia.
“Our boys team was down a couple of guys due to sickness but still performed well without them,” said Michalke.
“We were so excited about our JV teams,” he said. “We have a solid group of younger runners that has provided some needed depth.”
