Wyllodene Smith Mulkey peacefully passed away at the age of 93 on October 27, 2023. She was born in Fayette County Alabama on August 10, 1930 and graduated from Hewitt Trussville High School in 1948.
She was a dedicated mother and grandmother, enjoying life’s precious moments. Her professional life began at the Northeast YMCA then for over 30 years as a medical transcriptionist at Medical Center East. She enjoyed delving into captivating books and was a talented seamstress. Her adventurous spirit took her on trips with friends as she created lasting memories. She was an avid gardener – it reflected her connection to the earth and her joy in nurturing the beauty of the world around her. Her poetry allowed her to capture life’s fleeting moments and the memories most important to her. She would express gratitude for the love and companionship shared throughout her life. Her Christian faith, which guided her in life, assures her the eternal love that awaits us all.
She is preceded in death by her parents R Quinton and Almeda Wright Smith Watson, and her brother Ernest Ferrell Smith of Georgia. She left behind her children Karen Amberson of Montevallo, Cheryl (Danny) Holmes of Sylacauga and David (Gwen) Mulkey of Wilsonville, grandchildren Kevin Holmes (Amy) of Michigan and Keri Holmes Yother (John Frank) of Birmingham, three great grand children Anna Claire, Elizabeth and Daniel Yother.
