LEEDS – The Greater Birmingham Area Kids Acting Classes, formerly known as the Leeds-Moody Area Kids Acting Class, will be presenting a play titled “Christmas Shorts” at the Merch Event Center in Leeds from Dec. 9-10.
The play consists of a series of short television-style scenes broadcast in the North Pole.
“It’s almost as if somebody is flipping channels at the North Pole,” Director Victoria Boyce said. “We’ve got a soap opera scene, a reindeer Olympic games scene, a news scene. There are a couple of commercials – one is like a used car salesman, but it’s used Christmas trees. Lots of fun stuff.”
There will be three performances, with two taking place on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and one on Sunday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling Boyce at (205) 285-7635. Seating availability is limited.
“This is a comedy, so come have fun with your family and have a bucket of laughs,” Boyce said. “Your sides are going to be hurting when you’re done. …. We have some really talented kids. Some are first-timers who have never been on a stage before. Some have done a couple things, and then some have been with the class for a while. But they’ve all worked really hard and been dedicated and I know it’s going to be great.”
Each performance will be about an hour long with a 15-minute intermission. Concessions will be available with a donation.
“No set prices,” Boyce said. “Just give a small donation and there will be sweet, salty and drinks.”
Boyce said the class’s name change came about as a result of the class extending beyond the Leeds and Moody communities, to include other areas in Birmingham. Not only has the name changed, but location for the acting classes will soon be changing, as well.
“We are so excited to announce that our class is going to be moving to the Moody Civic Center next semester,” Boyce said, adding that classes are $200 per semester for students from first through 12th grades. “We do offer payment plans of either $50/month or $20/week until it’s paid off and we also offer an intensive class for high schoolers and more advanced actors.”
