LEEDS – The college signings just keep coming for the Leeds Greenwave athletic program. After soccer, tennis and baseball had signings the past couple of weeks, defensive end Kavion Henderson and Jerry Hood’s football team took center stage Monday as one of the best defensive players Leeds has ever seen signed his letter of intent to play at the collegiate level as a member of the SEC’s Arkansas Razorbacks.
Kavion began his high school football career at Leeds five years ago as an eight grader. He has not missed a single game since then. Henderson was also selected to play in both the Alabama/Mississippi All-Star Game as well as the Under Armor All-American Game where only the best football players in the state are selected.
“This feels good because I got to see a lot of my former teammates sign,” said Henderson. “I would like to thank God and my parents, grandparents, Coaches Hood and Coleman. I chose Arkansas really because of the relationship with the staff. I love that community and the fans and I hope to touch the field and work hard to showcase my skills. I want to leave a good legacy here at Leeds. I want the young kids to look up to me but I want them to know this would not be possible without God. Put God first, listen to your coaches and work in your free time and push yourself even when you do not feel like it. That’s what I would say to the younger guys. I just want to thank God again and Leeds for everything. My teachers and principals…I MADE IT! #DEEPEND Greenie 4 Life!”
Kavion’s coach for those five years had the following to say, “Kavion Henderson will go down as an all-time great at Leeds High School. Kavion started for us as an eighth grader and never missed a game in five years. Obviously, he is the most highly recruited player in Leeds football history. He will be a three-time all-state player. It has been one of the great joys of my life to coach Kavion. He was President of our leadership council and a member for the past three years. He is a special player and an even better person. His legacy at Leeds will live on forever. We are excited to see Kavion prosper at the University of Arkansas. I love that boy.”
