TRUSSVILLE – The Trussville City Council unanimously approved an ordinance Tuesday night, Dec. 12, 2023, officially declaring that “the entire public road currently known as ‘Chalkville Road’ within the city limits shall be changed to Chalkville Mountain Road.”
This ordinance specifically applies to portions of the road, which is also known as Route 10, from Service Road to just past the Kohl’s shopping center, Mayor Buddy Choat clarified. The purpose of the ordinance is to do away with confusion, particularly relating to business addresses along that corridor.
According to Ordinance 2023-027-ADM, “Chalkville Mountain Road is hereby re-established as beginning at the northern end of the I-59 bridge, extending in a north & northwesterly direction to the municipal corporate limits; and … That in the event of any future annexation along this public road, its city address shall have the Chalkville Mountain Road street name for E-911 purposes.”
Furthermore, the ordinance states that there has been “a dispute among government entities over the correct, proper & legal name of (the) public road,” that “generations of citizens within and beyond Trussville, Alabama have always referred to the section of County Road or Route 10, between Sweeney Hollow Road and Interstate 59, as Chalkville Mountain Road; and … the Unites States Postal Service already delivers envelopes and packages addressed to ‘Chalkville Mountain Road’ to various physical locations.”
In other business, the city approved:
- Proclamation 2023-25, declaring Dec. 16 as Wreaths Across America Day
- Ordinance 2023-025-PZ, rezoning 6287 Service Road to A-1 (Agricultural) from R-4 (Single Family & Duplex Residential)
- Ordinance 2023-026-PZ, rezoning 5998 Deerfoot Parkway to C-1 (Preferred Commercial) from IN-1 (Institutional)

- Resolution 2023-91, amending Resolution No. 2023-78 with up to $3 Million SEEDS Act Grant Matching Funds
