BIRMINGHAM — Police are investigating following a shooting death in the parking lot of a Dollar General on Tuesday afternoon.
Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates identified the victim as Exavier Tywan Mitchell, 26, of Birmingham.
When officers arrived, they found Mitchell lying on the ground unresponsive beside a black SUV. The victim was suffering from a gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene.
Fitzgerald said that there is a heavily populated apartment complex nearby and he believes there are witness to the shooting which occurred in broad daylight. He urged anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 205=254-7777.
