BIRMINGHAM — According to Officer Truman Fitzgerald, Birmingham detectives have obtained an arrest warrant in connection to the homicide investigation of Stephen Keith Jr.
Keith was shot and killed in his vehicle on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, in the 9300 block of Parkway East.
“The suspect is also charged with shooting a second adult male in a second incident the same day,” Fitzgerald said. “The second shooting occurred in the 1300 Block of High Point Terrace, (where) an adult male was shot inside his vehicle; he suffered non-life-threatening injuries.”
The suspect has been identified as Anthony Dubose Jr., 25, of Birmingham.
Dubose was arrested after officers located him in Tom Bradford Park at 1701 Edwards Lake Road.
“BPD’s East Precinct, Crime Reduction Team, and Tactical Operations Precinct, along with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and Trussville Police Department played a major role in taking the suspect into custody free of any incident,” Fitzgerald said.
On Sunday, Birmingham Police Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained warrants for capital murder, attempted murder, and discharging into an occupied vehicle.
Anthony Dubose Jr. will be held in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
According to BPD Sgt. LaQuitta Wade, police were alerted to shots fired at a vehicle near Gadsden Highway and Edwards Lake Road near Trussville.
At approximately 1:33 p.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to a call of a motor vehicle accident in the 9300 Block of Parkway East, according to Wade.
“Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim suffering from what appeared to be injuries caused by the motor vehicle accident,” Wade said. “Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital. UAB medical staff determined that the victim had sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound.”
The victim has been identified as Stephen A. Keith Jr., 77, of Birmingham. Keith was pronounced deceased at 9:44 p.m.
“The preliminary investigation suggests that at approximately 1:31 p.m., East Precinct officers received a BOLO from our 911 Communications Division of a male firing shots at another vehicle near Edwards Lake Road and Gadsden Highway,” Wade said. “Minutes later, several calls were received stating matching call details in the 9300 Block of Parkway East.”
After Keith was struck by gunfire on Parkway East, his vehicle collided with a pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup truck was also transported to UAB Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services.
Trussville Police Lt. Clint Riner said that TPD was notified of the incident by Birmingham police and asked to divert traffic from Edwards Lake Road while the suspect was apprehended at Tom Bradford Park.
