BIRMINGHAM – The Birmingham Police Department reported that detectives have obtained warrants for the arrest of three suspects in connection to the homicide investigation of David Nicholas. Nicholas was shot and killed on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023, in the 1400 Block of Lake Lane.
An adult female was kidnapped during the incident, but found safe by Leeds police officers on Sunday, Dec. 24. The woman was in a vehicle with suspect Joshua Corey Guthrie, 33, in the parking lot of the Leed’s Walmart Supercenter located at 8551 Whitfield Avenue.
The other two suspects have been identified as Dustin Stanfield, 43, of Hoover, and Brittany Patterson, 33, of Mt. Olive.
“On Tuesday, December 26, 2023, Birmingham Police Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated. “After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained warrants for Capital Murder (Kidnapping) and Kidnapping 1st Degree on the three suspects.”
Stanfield and Guthrie were arrested on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023. Brittany Patterson was arrested on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023.
All three suspects will be held in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
