TRUSSVILLE – The Trussville Tribune has learned that Clay-Chalkville’s Drew Gilmer will become the next Hoover High football coach, pending approval of the Hoover school board.
An official announcement has not been made but a press conference is scheduled at Hoover for 5:45 p.m. Thursday. The invitation was from Athletic Director Dr. Harley Lamey inviting attendees to the Michael Jordan Room at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium for the “special event regarding the hiring of the newHead Football Coach at Hoover High School.”
Multiple sources have confirmed that the two-time state championship coach will leave after eight years.
Gilmer, the 2023 6A coach of the year, compiled an 81-12 record while leading the Cougars to the 2021 and 2023 6A state championships.
Wade Waldrop departed Hoover earlier this month after a 16-9 record the past two seasons.
Hoover has won 13 state championships and 542 games in 61 seasons.
