MIDFIELD — Just after 2 a.m. Sunday, deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 200 block of 7th Street in Midfield on the report of a person who had been shot inside a home, according to JCSO Lt. Joni Money.
The 67-year-old male victim was transported to UAB Hospital with significant injuries.
It is the second time in a matter of days that a person has been struck by a stray bullet while inside their own home. A 12-year-old boy was critically injured when he was struck inside his Birmingham home.
“During the investigation, it was found that other homes had been struck by bullets but there were no additional injuries reported,” Money said. “There is currently no one in custody for the shooting. No motive has been established at this time.”
Detectives are conducting the investigation into the shooting and are requesting assistance from anyone who may have information regarding the incident.
