TRUSSVILLE — A popular Birmingham sushi restaurant will open their second location in Trussville’s Entertainment District. Umami, which is located in the Lakview District on 7th Ave. South, will occupy the former Mexicali Blues building in the Trussville Entertainment District.
The building is across from Ferus and next door to Pinchgut Pies.
Umami offers Asian-inspired cuisine and sushi. In addition to sushi rolls, hot plates, tacos, soups and salads. Menu items are moderately priced and offer a wide range of options including shrimp, lobster, scallops, beef, pork belly, and fresh fish.
Putu Arsana and his brother, Gus Suyasa, will own and operate the restaurant. The Lakeview location opened in 2021 in the former Babalu Tacos & Tapas location.
The menu at the Trussville location will be similar to the Lakeview menu, but there will be differences because the Trussville Restaurant will offer Asian fusion, according to the Birmingham Business Journal. The restaurant will seat about 65 people, offer a tiki bar and plans to hire about 20 people.
Umami in Trussville plans to open in the spring, if not sooner, the owner told BBJ.
