TRUSSVILLE – The best of the best in bowling in Alabama’s 6 and 7A classifications’ North division ascended on SpareTime in Trussville on Thursday as the Huskies hosted the North Regional Bowling tournament. The Hewitt-Trussville boys won their region while the girls were competitive and finished third.
In the early round, the Hewitt boys took the region crown despite a slow start. After the first game, the Huskies found themselves in fourth place out of the eight competing teams. Gadsden City opened with an 880 while Sparkman followed with an 865 followed by American Christian Academy with an 857. Hewitt rolled an 849 in the opening game.
Game two was a far different story as the Huskies shot a 967, besting Sparkman by 79 pins at 888. Gadsden City shot an 842 and American Christian had an 841.
In the final game of the day, Hewitt stayed in the 900’s, shotting a 927. Sparkman came in second with an 894 while Mortimer Jordan shot an 891 and Tuscaloosa County shot 829 to round out the top four for the game.
Overall, Hewitt finished with 2,743 to top Sparkman, who had 2,647. Gadsden City was third with 2,508 and American Christian came in fourth with 2,488.
Eko Burroughs paced the Huskies with a 222, 258, and 205 to lead all bowlers with a 685 series. Tristan Atwood shot 164, 199, and 211 for a 574 series. Nate Dodson had a 164, 222, and 157 for a 543 series. Carter Pannell shot 161, 173, and 173 for a 507 total and Luke Stutsman shot a 181 in his lone game, the final game of the morning.
The girls closed out the day at SpareTime with the Lady Huskies taking third place in the region. The Hewitt ladies shot 723 in the first game with American Christian in first place with a 780 and Sparkman in second with 779. In game two, Sparkman shot 875 with American Christian in second with a 787 and Hewitt with 713 in third. In the third game, Hewitt would finish second with 744 but the dominant Sparkman Senators would shoot 813 to seal the win. American Christian had 693 in the final game. Overall, Sparkman won the region with a 2,467 while American Christian had 2,260 and the Huskies finished with a 2,180.
The Huskies were led by Anna Abney, who had a 141, 160, and 168 on the day, finishing with a 469 series. Deborah Stovall shot a 150, 180, and 125 to finish with a 455, followed closely by Evie Jones who shot 131, 165, and 154 for a 450 series. Ainsley Rodgers shot a 178 in her lone game for the day, which was game one.
Bracket play for both teams will be this Thursday at SpareTime.
