TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce held the annual Toast of the Town: Celebrating Trussville’s Best event on Monday night.
Festivities began at 5:30 p.m. at Corbeau Wine Bar in the Trussville Entertainment District. Guests enjoyed the wine selection and hors d’oeuvres prepared by Corbeau and desserts prepared by the Hewitt-Trussville Culinary class.
Chamber president David Moore presented the prestigious Gatekeeper Award to Taylor Burt and the Gatekeeper Award for a group to Amy Peterson O’Brien of the Cahaba Homestead Heritage Foundation.
Burt is the head softball coach for Hewitt-Trussville High School. She has led the Huskies to three 7A State Championships in softball and added a Flag Football State Championship to her resume when she teamed with Coach Tonya Hunter to guide the HTHS ladies to the first-ever AHSAA event. Hewitt-Trussville softball is one of 12 Nike elite programs in the United States.
Last years winner, Mayor Buddy Choat, presented Burt with the award.
O’Brien leads the Cahaba Homestead Heritage Foundation. The group has focused on community education and preservation of Trussville’s historic district which is one of the largest intact WPA projects from the 1930s still in existence in America.
On Sunday, the group dedicated three historic district markers which are replicas of the original stone gazebo and gateway at Main Street and Parkway.
