DALE COUNTY — An Alabama State Trooper responding to a call of a someone threatening individuals with a knife at a bank in Ozark on Monday attempted to stop the suspect, according to Senior Trooper Kendra R. McKinney of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
The suspect was identified as Boyd Douglas Phillips, 47, of Ozark.
McKinney said the chase eventually led to the 100 block of Hub Street in Ozark. Phillips then fled into a nearby residence and barricaded himself inside.
ALEA SWAT, along with multiple local law enforcement agencies responded to the scene to assist.
“During the course of the incident, officers with ALEA SWAT fired shots, striking Phillips. Phillips was pronounced deceased,” McKinney said. “No officers were injured during the incident.”
No further information is available as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Dale County District Attorney’s Office.
