Project Success Ministries opened a new shelter last week specializing in serving seniors with special needs. The shelter, PSM House of Love is located at 100 20th Avenue NW in Center Point.
Zoning for the shelter was approved by the City Council in September of 2023. Project Success Ministries, a local nonprofit serving a variety of needs, asked to change the zoning of the property from C-1 to Institutional 2 in order to use the building as a shelter for homeless seniors who have been released from local hospitals needing additional recovery time.
Mayor Bobby Scott attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the shelter on January 30 and spoke at the ceremony. Morris Jolly, who serves as vice chair of the Project Success board of directors, said Scott has been supportive of the ministry and expressed excitement for the shelter.
“This shelter is different than most specializing in elderly with special needs facing homelessness. There are no other shelters like it in Jefferson County,” Jolly said.
